Is Your Boat Ready for Autumn & Winter?

Autumn can offer some fabulous days on the lake for all types of boating.   However sometimes Autumn can bring with it unsettled weather so in preparation for this and the Winter months it is important to make sure your boat is ready to cope with strong winds, changing water levels and low temperatures.  A few changes to your boat and mooring will make sure you continue to enjoy your boating right through the Winter.

Before the temperatures drop below zero, protect your engines and fresh water systems from frost damage by winterizing them. If you have a serviced mooring, leave some heat on, controlled by a thermostat.

Top up your fuel tanks to prevent a build-up of condensation.  We have diesel available, by appointment, all year.

Your boat needs to be ready to cope with winter weather  and our other winterisation tips include:

  • Make sure your mooring lines are in good condition and are ready to cope with strong winds and changing water levels.
  • Think about a pulley-system if you are on a fixed jetty or longer spring-lines.
  • Have plenty of fenders out and keep them at different heights to protect your boat as water levels change.
  • Keep shore-power leads off the jetty and any joints out of the weather.
  • Leave enough slack in the cable to allow boat movement as the water rises and falls.
  • Ensure canopies are secure and in good condition.
  • Take a look at our winter mooring tips on our website for further advice.
