Our Story

Windermere Marina Village through the Years

1960 – 2024

2024

2024 saw the completion of a £4,000,000 redevelopment of our marina. The primary strategy for the redevelopment was the replacement of all existing traditional fixed timber jetty structures which were submerged by floods, with modern floating pontoon equipment. A new berthing layout has been established to optimise the waterspace in the most efficient manner.

2020s

Upgrade of the marina from fixed timber jetties to state of the art floating pontoons, with modern services including fibre internet connection to serviced berths.  The work included removal of all timber jetties and extensive dredging work throughout the whole marina basin. The toilet and shower block also underwent a complete refurbishment, renewing all the facilities.

2010s

The original timeshare and holiday cottages were replaced with the building of the Marina View Apartments.

2000s

The 2000s saw the construction of the Windward and Windermere Apartments, plus The Boathouse Bar & Restaurant. The number of properties on site grew to around 80.

1990's

The marina, cottages and Spinnaker Leisure Club became one of the most desirable locations in the North West for boating and holiday accommodation.

1980s

The marina was purchased by its current owners in 1986 and extended to accommodate approximately 400 boats. Planning permission was also granted and building of the properties around the marina started the same year.

1970s

By the end of the 70s around 100 boats could be accommodated, moored around the edge of the marina.

1960s

The ‘marina’ as we know it was a wooded, wet, peat field, when 2 locals recognised its potential as a marina on the edge of Windermere in 1962. A channel was dug into the lake and a small marina area excavated. At the same time, 10 studio apartments were built with wet docks beneath them.
